Continuous Monitoring and Adaptive Control

Opti enhances passive stormwater infrastructure to create an active, optimized system using our cloud-based Continuous Monitoring and Adaptive Control (CMAC) technology. CMAC uses weather forecasts and sensor data to predictively automate storage and flow control across the watershed.

Opti provides:

  • Automated real-time predictive control
  • Easily configure sites to meet multiple goals - from compliance to performance
  • Coordinated release across multiple sites based on site-specific conditions in the watershed (e.g. water level downstream, tides, temperature)
  • Integration-friendly APIs to connect with third-party sensors, actuators, and SCADA systems
  • Web-based dashboard with real-time and historical data

Smart Watershed Network

Coordinated CMAC systems enable smart watershed network management by optimizing asset performance across the watershed. The CMAC systems achieve this by integrating real-time monitoring data from upstream, downstream, and local sites, along with weather forecasts. This allows for functions like Coordinated Release (CR), where water releases are actively managed  to meet overall watershed objectives.

Types of assets that can make up a smart watershed network include:
Flow Control Devices: Actuated valves, gates, and pumps are remotely controlled by accessing a secure and encrypted web-based dashboard. Decision support is provided to inform control actions and improve operations over time.
Third-Party Monitoring: Water quality and quantity data are continuously monitored in real-time. Data are visualized on a web-based dashboard and are used to inform operations of other assets in the watershed.
Continuous Monitoring and Adaptive Control (CMAC) Facilities: Real-time forecast-based control of stormwater infrastructure is provided through automated control logic. Live data streams are visualized via the web-based dashboard which facilitates monitoring and remote control capabilities.
Wastewater Treatment Facility: Real-time sensor data and weather forecasts are used to dynamically adjust treatment processes and discharge strategies. The facility also coordinates with other watershed assets to mitigate pollution impacts, especially during heavy rainfall events, to enhance watershed resilience.
